Here's a screenshot (link to Flickr) showing the airwires.  Clicking on the

ratsnest button does nothing

    Hi Scott,

It looks like the connections are drawn as traces on the PCB layout top copper layer. These can be altered with the "Ripup" tool, which will convert traces back to unrouted nets. If the nets go nowhere, this action will make the trace dissappear.

Ratsnest will only clean up unrouted nets.

The connections need to be made on the "Nets" layer in the schematic. Then they will show up as unrouted connections on the PCB layout.

It is possible to draw connections only on the layout, but if the are not already on the schematic, Eagle does not know where they are supposed to be connected, so you would have to make sure the connections are correct just by your own inspection and editing.

    I tried ripup, but it didn't help.  In the command bar I entered: ripup *;

It probably means the lines are not "wires", which means they were not drawn on a copper layer.

You can determine if a line is a wire using the info "i" tool. Simply click on the "i" tool icon and then click or double click on the object or line you want information about. Copper layer objects will show up as a wire in the info box.

To operate on a group of objects surround them with the box group tool (this will highlight the selection) then click on the operator tool you want to use such as "Ripup", then right click on one of the highlighted objects.

It's a wire.  The ratsnest and autorouter were working fine for this PCB, then all of a sudden this problem cropped up.  I zipped up the files and attached them to the original post.

Perhaps the traces are not completely ripped up. If you use the Ripup tool and repeatedly click on a specific wire it should rip up the entire trace.

Do Ripup and Ratnest still work on new connections if you add a few? Is it just this layout that doesn't work? Or has Eagle just stopped working properly on all layouts?

I tried adding a component and connected it to stuff in the schematic.

Eagle created new airwires for the new component and when I clicked on the

ratsnest button, it would update the airwires for the now component, but no

other airwires would change.  I'm only having this problem with this one

project.  My other Eagle projects are fine and don't exhibit this problem.

If you manually try moving the problem air wires around does it work?

If you try to delete one of the problem air wires, does it indicate you must make this edit on the schematic?

If you try to manually route one of the problem air wires, does it work?

What happens if you tell it to autoroute the card?

I can't move an airwire.  If I move an component, the air wire will follow it. or at least the last segment of the air wire.

Tyring to delete gives me an error saying I should do it in the schemaitc

    I can manually route.

Autoroute just keeps trying and trying to route.  I don't know when it will give up.  It should take about 15 seconds to route.
