Methods of Viewing Nets

I have been using Eagle for a few months now after previously using Pads and the biggest drawback seems to be the inability to color code the nets.  This makes intelligent component placement and the drawing of pour areas a lot more tedious than those operations need to be.  I did read the tip about using the RATSNEST command to hide/show certain nets and that helps somewhat prior to routing.   But for drawing the pour areas which I normally do after routing, I have resorted to sticking pieces of tape to the computer screen while the SHOW command highlights the net of interest to mark the boundaries of where I want to draw the pour.  Or course once I begin drawing the pour the highlighted net disappears but the little pieces of tape remain and I can draw the pour using the pieces of tape as a guide.  I would just like to know if there is a more sensible way to do this in Eagle.

Why not simply fix Eagle so the Show command works as needed? Clicking on

anything after "showing" makes it go away, severely limiting its use. May

be use a shift-click to "lock" it.

Also, there should be an option to have a highlighter (as though you took a

highlighter to a schematic or board layout)--when you are zoomed out (such

as trying to view a net in a large schematic), it is hard to see the very

thin lines even when they are colored/shown.

I agree, this is something that needs fixing in EAGLE. It's been raised several times before (including by myself) and from what I can gather it is at least on Cadsoft's radar so hopefully this will end up resolved in some future version.....

I think this wish is about as half as old as eagle itself.

Among others I suggested to make it flash because  in today's plenty of

layers, signal colours are hardly to distinguish even if they are high

    lighted.

It might be that cadsoft has it on Radar but imho the Show command seams

to be in stealth mode image

Yes you are right, it can be hard to distinguish at times. I think a related feature which I have mentioned previously is to allow different colours to be assigned to different net classes. This combined with a persistent highlight and a larger default colour palette should make a big difference. I do kinda like the idea of having the ability to temporarily make a highlighted net flash to accentuate the highlight, I can see that being quite helpful at times.

They would obviously benefit from having a persistent highlight on their todo list as well image
