Newbie - need a simple SIP package

I'm new to Eagle and have a need to create a simple board.  I believe I can figure out how to do most of the layout but one of my parts is an uncommon part with a single inline package with standard hole spacing (same as a prototyping board.)  I've spent a lot of time reading instructions and viewing tutorials but am still not understanding a straightforward way to modify an existing package to do what I need.  My electronic part is a an RF receiver board about 2" long with 8 pins at various points and looks like this:

Ideally I could just grab an existing package and remove a few of the pins and be good to go.

Can anyone explain for me in clear steps how I might do this or whatever it takes to get this into Eagle?

Thanks!

There are many tutorials over library creation over Internet. Although if project is simple i would just use 2x 4 pinhead connectors. If you really want to make new element do not use an existing package for such simple task! If you really really want to modify existing package do as follows: open your library, in main eagle window find requested package in some other library and select "copy to library" from context menu. Now part is copied into your library and can be easily modified.

    Hope that will help.

What you need is a library for your part. Since

    you say it's a sil package I attached a library SIL.lbr which I

generated from resistor-sil.lbr.You must open the library and edit it to

fit your needs. Tutorials how to edit eagle libraries can be found in

the internet and in the eagle doc-directory.

Subsequent to posting my message above I remembered that the manual for version 5 states: "Select the Package editing mode via the icon in the action toolbar..." however I do not have this icon/button in my interface or at least I cannot find it.  This was my main problem before.

Thanks for your response, Maciej.  So you're saying use (2) 4-pinhead connectors?  Good idea, but how do I find such a part amongst the thousands of parts?  I search for 'pinhead' and get nothing in the ADD part interface.

    Thank you Joern!

However I do not see an attachment to your post.

I cannot see an attachment either, some people seems to have access into element14 by usernet. Unfortunaetly it doesnt work well. To edit package in library: 1. be sure you are in library edit window (you can tell by menu icon apperance, it should be an olive book in contrast to default green board/red-white schematic icons) then select "Library" from main menu and then "Package". Pinheads are located in PINHEAD library, you can find them using "PINHD*". If you are using awesome SparkFun (highly recommend) library look for M components (ex. M2 M5 etc.).

Looks like you have one of these

    http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10533

    http://dlnmh9ip6v2uc.cloudfront.net/datasheets/Wireless/General/RWS-374-3_315MHz_ASK_RF_Receiver_Module_Data_Sheet.pdf

There is a package footprint (RF-LINK_RF) in the Sparkfun Eagle library

    https://github.com/sparkfun/SparkFun-Eagle-Library/archives/master

but don't use it as is. There is an error with it and it needs the pin

groups seperating by a further 0.1"

It is for older modules so the tPlace outline may need adjusting to better

represent the thinkness of your module.

From your answer I see that the attachment did not reach the poster.

Sorry about that. I usually don't check the posters address, just tried

    to help.

Meanwhile it should be well known that the element14 link does not work

well. So why not use the eagle central forum or the eagle newsgroup.
