Change wire cap

Hi,

I have been having a play around with the layout editor in eagle to familiarize myself with the basics of PCB design. However, I have ran into what should be quite a simple problem.

I need the end of the wire to be flat instead of rounded, because with the rounded end the trace 'spills' over the other side of the pad with the trace thickness that I want, since the pad is relatively thin. If the end were flat, then this would not happen. There is the option in the properties dialog with the cap set to round, but this is grayed out and cannot be changed. The change tool won't change the cap to flat either.

Any advice? It seems like the problem should be simple to fix but I can't see any obvious options.

One other option to power supply traces that need to vary is size it to

use polygons for them. It is a little more work to start with using the

polygon properties get the maximum thickness that passes DRC.

    Thanks for the response Paul.

Do you know if it is possible to use pollygons with the follow-me method? I've been using the forward/back or follow-me method to ensure that everything is hooked up correctly with regards to the schematic.

The problem seems very odd to me, since if you go into the properties of the wire and add a curve, you suddenly get the option to make the end of the wire flat. But once you return to having no curve on the wire, the option is greyed out and forced to rounded end.

Currently only arcs can have flat ends

The  properties dialog only works correctly in this area in version 5.11.2

What  works is to route  towards the pin with straight wires and make the

final portion an arc with the minimum curve eagle will let you have. Give

    that arc flat ends.
