Directory option no longer working?

matterama
matterama over 11 years ago

Hi all,

Using the Professional version...7.2...

I have a separate library folder that I point to with each new version of Eagle.  After a upgrade, the stock eagle directories are listed in "Options->Directories".  I typically remove this path and replace it with the path to my library folder.

As of 7.2, removing the eagle source libraries from the path does not work anymore.  When I go to "add" a part, I have duplicate libraries showing up.   This greatly slows everything down.

Can anyone else confirm this behavior and suggest a fix?  I have two machines that this runs on, both show the same problem...

Thanks!

    Greetings,

I have similar but catastrophic using "Options->Directories".  I created New folder under Projects, then created .sch and .brd designs there, then created empty New library under Libraries.  But then my projects New folder was DELETED along with my .sch and .brd files.  The missing files are not on my hard drive and not in recycle bin.  This goofy directory management doesn't seem to work and I am very frustrated.

I wonder if this ties in with what I was seeing in version 6.5 that I asked

    about recently (

    http://www.eaglecentral.ca/forums/index.php/t/50419/263197e281ad9469b2edb50517b0c717/

) where the library update command only presents a list of libraries to

work with in the original library path, but not any of the ones listed in

the supplemental path(s) set in the "Directories" options (although at

least in my case it hasn't deleted files for me !)

    Hi Matt,

I hope you're doing well. Could you provide some more details about your

operating system and any other pertinent details. I would appreciate

similar info from others on this thread. This is the first I hear of

    such and issue.

Additionally, a step by step procedure of how you ran into this bug will

be helpful. There could be something in the sequence that causes the hickup.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

For what it's worth in my case, win7/64 Eagle 6.5 - in my Directories

settings for the libraries, I have

    "$EAGLEDIR\lbr;$HOME\eagle\mjf_lbr;$HOME\eagle\3rd_lbr" - when I select

"Add" for a component, it does show all the libraries, but as I noted in my

    original post,

If you activate the UPDATE command without a parameter, a file dialog will

be presented to select the library from which to update."

Unfortunately, if I do it that way, it does not give me the option of

selecting my library. It appears to only offer libraries that are in the

main lbr folder, not any other (like the ones in my personal path) in spite

of the fact that in the "Directories" dialog, I do have the additional

    paths specified ( $EAGLEDIR\lbr;$HOME\eagle\mjf_lbr;$HOME\eagle\3rd_lbr )

and the libraries are marked as active (green dot). I can see them from the

libraries tree and use the parts, but the update dialog only shows the ones

in the lbr tree, not in the "mjf_lbr" or "3rd_lbr" folders. Am I missing

something or is this a bug? (Library Update all does pick up the changes so

it knows to look there).  It is only looking in the default library, none

of those listed in the Directories option.

I did discover that while my libraries are NOT listed in the update option

(although it can find them for parts doing an add), that if I look in the

library tree I can RIGHT click my library and select "Update" and that

    seems to work also.

Interesting and I have encountered similar bugs.  Today I downloaded libraries from Element14 and extracted to element14 subfolder.  I looked at the tree and saw TWO identical element14 folders the 2nd being in another library folder.  So I deleted that element14 folder and when I refreshed the tree items in BOTH element folders were gone.  So maybe I lost my work files same way by having two project folders with the same name (I intended to make a subfolder with same name as I wanted to work in the new folder and delete the original folder.)  Now I noticed I have two ltspice libraries, one is Libraries\ltspice and the other is Libraries\lbr\ltspice.  Don't know how that happened.

    Hi Jorge,

Your question has spawned new information...

I am using version 7.2 and this happens on both a Win XP 32 bit and Win 7 64 bit platform.

My options->directories library path has been modified to be simply:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Main User\My Documents\eagle\lbr

I have copied the core libraries from the main Eagle directory to this folder, but also left them in the default directory.

    The original problem is:

When, in a schematic, I type "add", then there is a long pause and when the add dialog comes up, it shows me entries for both the libraries located in my "My Documents" path and the main eagle path, despite the fact that the options->directories path is ONLY for the "My Documents" path.

    New information:

I thought the duplicate path was the main eagle path, but it is not.  It is from the 7.1 version!!  So it is "C:\EAGLE-7.10/lbr/..."

Help?  The 7.2 directory path is only to the My Documents lbr folder.  Why is it looking also in the older 7.1 version?

    Thanks,
    Matt

I've never had anything but version 7.2.  Somehow folders with the same name become ghosts and deleting one deletes both.  That's how I lost my project files.

If you are using projects the issue may be in the eagle.epf file of the

project as it holds a list of the used libraries. Verify it by opening

it in a text editor. If it does contain both 7.1 and 7.2 libraries that

will be the cause of seeing both when you initiate an ADD.

The easiest fix is to type USE -* in the command line. That will drop

all libraries. Then USE the ones you want either from the control panel

or use the command line again. See HELP > Editor Commands > USE

    Hi Matt,

Adding to Warren's comment, there's also the need to make sure that the

eaglerc file is not being shared between multiple versions of EAGLE.

This can create some "crosstalk" between versions. If you don't find

that the EAGLE .epf file is the cause this is the next possible

contender. This shouldn't be a problem in the V7 series but it's worth

guaranteeing that it isn't a cause.

I've found that the best way to handle this is to explicitly tell EAGLE

what eaglerc file to use. This is done by starting EAGLE through a batch

file. It's a simple one liner, here's mine:

    "C:\Program Files\EAGLE-6.5.0\bin\eagle.exe" -U"C:\Documents and

    Settings\Administrator\My Documents\eagle\eaglerc650.usr"

    Adjust the paths as necessary.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

This did the trick Warren.  I've been upgrading like this from the 4.x series at least, never had the .usr file trump the project directory selection.  Thanks!
