Deleting internal layers

I'm running v4.16 on Win7 x64.

 

That cannot be done in v.4.16 without tricks on a binary base and the

layers must be empty.

The first version where that was possible was 5.12

Thanks, Joern.  One of these days I'll have to upgrade, but since I rarely

use the autorouter it's not clear to me what the benefit would be.  I guess

this would be one.  In the meantime, can I just ignore the inner layers as

I route and when I produce my Gerbers?

IMHO the autorouter is for the birds

If you produce Gerbers for a board house just talk to them to ignore the

inner layers.

It certainly depends on what you need/want.

If you upgrade from 4 to 5 you pay the upgrade fee, if you upgrade from

4 to 6 you pay twice the fee and so on. You should check the release

notes at the cadsoft site and then decide what you really need.

As I have checked the site I noticed that you cannot straight download

versions before 7

anymore. You have to do that on the cadsoft ftp site. I would do that

NOW and download

ver. 5.15 and 6.6.0 for your system, because I think that will not be

possible anymore in near future. You can then license the version you want.

You may have noticed that cadsoft/eagle has been resold from Farnell to

Autodesk

Imho their policy is even more worst than was Farnells. I shall not

accept their License and Services Agreement and I don't like the

Autodesk Privacy Statement at all.

Apart from that I think that for the upgrade fee from ver.6  to 7 the

real achievement is far too less.

Just to clarify this policy has changed. There's no multiplier anymore

so everyone pays the same flat upgrade fee.

thanks for cutting in.

Not too long ago I read somewhere in the newsgroups that every step up

needs a fee which seems also to be logical to me.

So do I understand you right that for example an upgrade from Version

4.16 to version 7.7.0 cost one fee only? (which is around €600.- for a

professional (ultimate now?))

If that is so it would certainly catch the interest of users

indicate any other fees.

Compared to a new license, that's a very attractive price, but I'm having

trouble finding out what's better about the 7.7 vs. 4.16, so I can't tell

if it's actually worth it.

Why do you have trouble finding that out? Just download the 7.7, extract

its contents with your packer of choice and go straight to the doc

folder. You'll find the file UPDATE_en.txt here (same as it is for your

current 4.16r2 installation).

Within UPDATE_en.txt, jump to the section "Release notes for EAGLE

4.16r2". From here, you can read the file back up to the top (skip the

"Bugfixes" sections while reading).

Alternatively, read the release notes online (menu on the right side):

As far as I can tell, the update is definitely worth it. In short: The

jump from 4.1 to 5 is a HUGE one, contains many must-have features. The

jump from 5 to 6 is not quite that exciting, but once again you'll get

some nice new features. V7 is V6 with increased version number.
