How to Unlock components from the command line (or script).

dukepro
dukepro over 8 years ago

Eagle 7.7.0

It's clear how one can lock the position of components from the command

line:

    Lock LED1 LED2 LED3;

But what is not clear is to how to unlock it.  Thus far, I have tried:

    Lock -LED1      # Unkown element: -

    Lock S LED1     # Unknown element: S

    Lock (S) LED1   # Invalid point: (S) LED1

    Lock (S LED1)   # Invalid point: (S LED1)

What I'd like to see is:

    Unlock LED1 LED2 LED3;

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

    - Chuck

    Hi Chuck,

    You could use ULP and write an unlock function to retrieve the X and Y coordinates of each refdes passed as a parameter and then exit with LOCK (S X Y) for each one but I don't know of an existing command.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Chuck,

    I expect you've got this sorted now anyway but I've added another ULP to my library to create an unlock command. The usage is:

    RUN unlock LED1 LED2 LED3

    You can find the detail here if you would like it: EAGLE ULP Utilities Library

    There is a link to the GIT repository containing my library near the top, the usage instructions for all my released library utilities are documented on that page.

    Best Regards,

    Rachael

    Snip.....

    Ugggh, the Element14 -> NNTP bridge really mangled that one very badly,

    sorry about that....

    You can find the documentation for my EAGLE ULP library here:

    https://www.element14.com/community/people/rachaelp/blog/2017/03/03/eagle-ulp-utilities-library

    And the GIT repository is here:

    Best Regards,

    There is simple way to unlock components. Select component > Right click and go to properties. Uncheck lock. That is all.

    The question was about unlocking components form the command line or a script, i.e. when you are automating something. Of course you can do it from the context menu, or the properties but that doesn't help with automation.

    Hi

    There is another way.

    If the following is in the command line

    LOCK (S@)

    and then you position the mouse over the locked element and hit enter, the element is unlocked.

    @ means, 'at the current cursor position'.

    That's a command line option but not much different to the mouse right click and selecting 'Unlock'

    If you then assign a key combination to cause the  LOCK (S@) , then the action to unlock an element becomes:

    Position mouse over the locked element and then depress the key combination that runs LOCK (S@)

    Hi,

    late but ...

    if you are ok with something like "run unlock LED1 ..." you could

    write an ULP that groups the given parts using the setgroup() function

    and then issues an "lock (>0 0)" on exit.

    something like the following would be my first try

    beware: not tested at all!

         board(BRD) {

           clrgroup(BRD);

         BRD.elements(ELM) {

             if (ELM.name == argv[1]) {

               setgroup(ELM);

               exit("lock (>0 0);");

             }

           }

         }

    I dont know if it an sw accident, and it is probably just a curiosity

    and of no practical use, but this works on 7.7.0:

    Type

         Lock

    then immediately follow up with

         (S@)

    ...and it gets unlocked! But the mouse pointer needs to be within the

    window for it to work.. Maybe there are other side effects that can be

    explored..

    Having just said that, here seems to be the solution to unlock!:

    "lock  (S@);"

    Damn, I was too quick.. My mouse pointer was too close to the device I

    was playing with. Both my suggestions fail if the pointer is closer to a

    different device.. Sorry for the alarm image
