eagle wiring schematic

Ok I am frustrated. Too many times in eagle I have tried to wire chip pin to whatever else but the friggin wire won't connect to the pin. I discovered the trick of manually entering the x-y coordinates and that sometimes works. So how the heck do you go about doing this reliably?

I understand the frustration!  It took me a long time to sort some things out with Eagle, but now that I have, I really love it...

How is your grid set up?  Is it .1 inch?

    Hi,

I thought that there was a way to force a wire to snap to the nearest object, like doing a Control/click, or something, but I can't find a reference to that right now.

Two causes for this problem that I can think of are:

1- If the "Snap Length" has somehow gotten set very small. That setting is in Options/Set/Misc/Snap Length. It is 0.020" by default.

2- If a component was defined in mm but your grid is set to inch, then the component pin probably isn't lined up with the snap grid. You can get around this by defining the alternate grid in mm. Then when you do an Alt/click, it will snap to the pin.

Grid is set to 0.1 in both schematics. Both the wire and pin have the identical y coordinates. They clearly overlap precisely even on small scale close up viewing. Set the snap option from 20 mil to 80 mil. Saved the Library

Updated all libraries. Still cannot get the friggin wire to connect to pin 5 of the device. Pin 5 is set as out type. The middle of that pin is right on a grid line. So is the wire. Trying like heck to get it to work but it won't.  I can connect a wire to pin 6. Haven't tried 4 yet.  Maybe I'll do that next. If I still can't get it to work I'll post pics.

    Thanks

Ok I figured it out. Pins 2 and 6 wouldn't wire connect. All others would.  Strange. So I disconnected everything in the device editor. Went to the symbol editor. Deleted pins 2 and 6. Recreated them. Back to the device editor. Reconnected everything. Saved. Updated all libraries. Back to board schematic. Connected wires to pins 2 and 6. Moved the device around a bit, then back to its original location where the wires were overlapping again. Boom! A junction symbol appears for those two pins. Move the device around a bit, can see that they're connected.

Dunno what the problem was but I'm a way don't care either.  Well actually I do but I gotta move on.

Thanks. Hope this helps someone else.
