Double sided PCB design

anishkgt

Hi all,

Since i've started using Eagle, i am now very much familiar with designing one sided. I thought i'd try out double sided.

My idea is to design a PCB with a 11pin connector on one side, 8 led on the other and a POT. So that the connector do not come in the way of the LED when mounting the PCB. below is my design just need some advise if the below design is ok as a double sided design before i send it to the fab house.

    Hi George,

It is fortunate here that the components used can be used flipped over, but some components can't

(e.g. a typical dual-in-line (DIL) microchip would have its connections very wrong if it was soldered on the other side of the board, since the anti-clockwise pin count would become clockwise on the other side - you'd have to bend each pin of the IC to face the other way).

The real solution is to instruct EAGLE that the part is to be flipped, and it will then correctly handle it.

To do this, use the 'mirror' command (there is an icon for it in the toolbar on the left side when laying out the PCB).

Also, use the mirror command on the variable resistor otherwise it won't work in the expected direction (unless you've compensated for that in your wiring which would then need to be corrected too).

This is assuming you want the variable resistor on the other side.

Right now from your question it is totally ambiguous if the connector is intended to be on other side, or the remainder components..

The holes "connected" to R1 do not appear to be plated holes - is this intentional?

In the original you had all three vi connected across near the POT and now you have only two with the third open. Is that a mistake?

Ooops missed that out. But would this be final ? Pot and leds go in the front the connector and resistor go behind is my what i have in mind.

The resistor has only one connection?

the other goes to the ground. Should it have a via to the ground on the other side ?

When the actual component is added wouldn't it be like inserted from the other side and the leads pop out the side we are looking at now ?

Just like pin 11 on the connector.
