Changing wire widths mid wire

e14 Contributor

I want to have a net class for power that is wider than the default track width however when the power reaches an IC with pin spacing less than the size of the power track I need to slim it down just to enter the IC.  I can do this by reducing the width manually which is a pain but when the DRC runs it must be using the net class to gauge the track width and it complains about every power pin that has been slimmed down in this way.

How can I achieve what I want with less pain, less manual intervention and less resultant error warnings?

Tue 4/26/2011 1:53 pm. As far as I know, Eagle doesn't do that. Any signal can only have a one width for autorouting -- as defined in the class, like you surmised. Over at http://www.eaglecentral.ca/forums/ in my few years with EagleCAD I have seen a succession of newcomers appear asking this question, usually in regard to ground traces, and getting no joy. I believe the quasi-official response is to use zero-ohm resistors, which wouldn't help you and is obviously ridiculous; various peculiar custom-library-part schemes have been used/suggested, but I believe always generate errors or worse.... So another helpful forum is http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/eaglecad/....

    Hi,

as James already wrote: You can assign a netclass with its width and clearance values to a signal. It is not possible to have different values for different parts of a signal. So when you use a smaller width for the tracks DRC will report an error. You can approve theses errors then.

Sorry, currently there is no other possibility.

    Regards,

    Richard
