Route command problem

Wolfskammer04
Wolfskammer04 over 14 years ago

When I want to draw a route from a pad of let's say a  DIL device then I can do it if I draw it at the top layer side. When I then want to draw a second one from the botom side the route color switches automatically to top again and I have no access to the bottom layer. Even if I hide the top layer it switches back to top (red). I have the impression that eagle only wants to connect to that side which is assignd in the package drawing. There I can not adjust both sides to be used. I only can check 'Mirror' or not but this is not what I need.

Any idea how to overcome that problem?

thanx

    Hi,

when you start the ROUTE command EAGLE simply take the layer you recently used, in your case Top.

If you change the layer to bottom before - not by hiding Bottom layer via DISPLAY - but by using for example the CHANGE command (CHANGE LAYER BOTTOM in short cha lay bot) or the LAYER command (LAY 16) it would take bottom layer and there is no need to DISPLAY top layer.

By the way: It is easy to change the layer. Simply press the iddle mouse button and go on.

    HTH Regards,

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

I guess you focued too much of hiding the layer. Of course I swiched my layer to bottom16 before Istarted to draw. I made a little screen video which demonstrated my problem. You will also see that pad with the cross underneath. The wires belong to the same net but I get them not connected. It also cames along with that 'self switching misbehaviour' - what can I do here?

    Hi again,

the situation in the layout is clear. The airwire starts at a SMD pad which is in top layer. So EAGLE has to start in Top. So EAGLE's behaviour is correct. There is no choice. If you really insist on routing in bottom layer, change your the sequence of actions: Don't change the layer and click onto the airwire, but click the airwire first then decide about the layer.

From the way you are clicking into the drawing I think you would like to start the routing at the pad and not at the SMD, correct? If yes, you have to use Ctrl + left click onto the pad. Then click the middle mouse button to select the layer......

    Regards,

    Richard

    Hi Richard,

Ctrl + left click - that's the point. Doing so it works. Thank you.

    Best regards

    Roland
