Bluescreen in Circuit Studio - Vault Explorer (Win10Pro)

thomasa
thomasa over 8 years ago

Until now Circuit Studio runs on my system on windows 7 with no problems. After switching to win10pro there is  reproducable bluescreen only in this program and  in only one control.

Workflow: "Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap" occur, if I select a preview of an element in "vault explorer" and move the mouse cursor into symbol or  footprint window.

Sometimes the "win32kfull.sys" will be mentioned.

- fresh windows 10 (64Bit/Pro), driver complete, updates ok

CS version 1.2 oder 1.3 oder 1.4

Has someone a similar issue and a solution for me?

p.s.: Is there a autosave-funktion?

###################################################################################

- Windows 10 (64Bit/Pro), frisch aufgesetzt, Treiber installiert, Updates aktuell

    Response from Altium:

"I've been able to reproduce this crash which only occurs in the new release of Windows 10 that Microsoft has rolled out to approximately 10% of Windows 10 users so far. On some computers with the new update called "Creators Update", the Vault panel component preview causes a blue screen. Some computers don't have the problem so it seems to be driver related, but even the latest drivers don't necessarily help. Some other CAD software is also having a similar problem.

"Our developers will investigate this but it is currently unclear if the software will need a fix, or if there will be an update to the Windows operating system to fix the problem."

Hi, I have same BSOD from similar splitted window, but in another program (SAP GUI by SAP AG).

BSOD appeared after "Windows 10 Creators Update" and win32kfull.sys is mentioned in it.
Replacing RAM & drivers isn't helped.
Various cleanups and tunings, WinDbg tool isn't helped too.

It seems to be that update problem.

p.s. Now I'm at "refresh windows" step (however, it won't change a build number) UPD: isn't helped, win10 home, version 1703 build 15063.0.

After it I will try to install the Circuit Studio to confirm my suggestion. UPD: Circuit Studio 1.3 Trial with same prerequisites generates the same BSOD screen!

    UPD:

Next step is install previous build of Windows and write a query to technet.microsoft.com

UPD2: Previous build requires the clean install and I have decided to install Windows 10 Insider Preview Build what solved that problem but creates future risks for me.

Official Microsoft Support Engineer, after few remote checks of my PC, suggested to contact software manufacturer, as software isn't compartible with Windows 10.

    Can you check this?

As I think, it comes from system handling of mouse motion over specific window element, as seen in Thomas Ahlendorf recording.

Possibly, Microsoft have updated touch-screen interaction functions of kernel, but don't want to admit own bugs.

    I have found solutions:

    • Clean install of Windows 10 version 1607 and prevent auto-update (hard to achieve)
    • Or update Windows 10 to Insiders Preview version 1703 build 16193.1001 (my solution) - I have no seen any BSOD in your application Circuit Studio - Vault Explorer window and in mine SAP GUI.
    • Or wait for official release of new build - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_version_history#Fall_Creators_Update or hope for the intermediate update.

I also have a BSOD with the vault. This is the first and only software that has caused this sort of behavior in Windows 10 for me.

FWIW : I uninstalled completely, and reinstalled and nothing has changed. Uninstalling was a fix for my issue of BSoD when adding too many libraries. Now, I wonder if lack of free H.D. space could be causing the problem...

I have the exact same issue.  Besides this problem it corrupts my CS project and  I lose my work even though I save often.  It loses my title block template and all my schematics are blank when i reboot the computer.  LIke another post said this is the only Software i've seen this issue with and have all kinds of development software on my laptop.

Same Problem here. Win10 crashes if I use the vault and move the mouse over a footprint (or something like that). Ok I understood that it's more a Win10 new release problem than a CS thing but CS ist the only software that causes that problem on my pc. So the vault is - again - non functional at the moment. And the crashes caused some failures in my projects. Thats really bad ... :-((

A few months ago we had this issue that some uses could not get logged in into the vault and now the vault is again non functional with the new Win10 release. I mean ... the vault is a paid feature with a yearly fee ... hmmm....
