CS Keeps Having System/Running Errors

sclifford
sclifford over 6 years ago

I have now used CS latest version for two straight weeks.  Mind you I have been an Altium user now for years.  I must say I am very frustrated in getting this CS to operate properly.  It seems to be full of Bugs!

1st Problem

I keep getting system errors,  the last time to fix it I had to remove CS then reload it again.  This fixed the problem but then now another error appears.  When it does this its gets in some continuous loop of try to send the error message back to Altium.  This is so frustrating in trying to complete a simple board!

2nd Problem

I can not upload a standard DXF file into CS from Solid Edge.  What's with this, if I load the same file into Solid Works then load it back to CS it works.  This does not make any since at all, Is there a fix for this.  Currently I have to send my design files to a friend then he has to send them back to me so I can load them, this is such a pain!  I have noted this on the Community but no response.  In the past I have used Solid Edge files with AD and have had no issues at all.

3rd Problem

Why does CS not support a STP files to make board outlines.  I notice it was available in earlier versions, why was it removed?  CS/AD have such a good 3D environment why would you remove such a functional and needed feature?

Is there anything unusual about your system setup?

For example, maybe you are working on a CS project that is stored in Dropbox?

Or running in a virtual machine?

I can't help but think there is something about the system which is triggering the problems you are seeing?

Well, I've, never seen that bug either but I'm running 1.5.1 and never work with polys poured...poly pours are too sloooow and my patience quickly runs out, I just pour prior to design rule check.

This is of no help, just saying that CS can work very well, guess I have luck on my side, so far!

Thanks for the video. A few suggestions to try in case you are still experiencing problems.

    1) Make sure the components on the PCB that you cannot select do not have the locked flag set. You can disable the lock flag under File > System Preferences

    image

    2) Does setting the selection filter from Components to All Objects make any difference to the ability to select the component?

    3) Make sure that any filter selection is cleared (different to the above filter). View | Clear.

    Peter,

Thank you for getting back to me on this issue which has been quite the frustration getting this board done.  In my case none of the parts were locked and the selection filter was set to All Objects. As you can see in the video I can select one part but not another (Q3 & Q5).  You will also see in the video the program moved Q5 into same position under Q3 which is strange and it also was not able to be selected.  For me to fix the issue I had to delete both Q3 and Q5 from my schematic update my board then add them back to schematic and again update my board.  This fixed my issue and I was a finally able to complete the board.  I would be glad to send my design files to those at Altium to see what the real root cause of this issue is, if it would help.

Now that being said,  I would like to add this was my first attempt at CircuitStudio... Even though I have had my pains with CircuitStudio I must say for $500 bucks I am pleased with its performance (when it runs properly).  CircuitStudio has enough of Altium in it to get a good design done, but I also must add could be done significantly faster and easier in Altium if the budget allows it!  I do a lot of power supply designs and I miss the ability to do via fills, and the ability to do some of the 3D features, and many others not available in CircuitStudio.  I do wish they would add back in the ability to make board outlines from STEP/STP (V1.3) files that's my only major complaint with CircuitStudio.

I will do a video of some of the tips and tricks i have learned in using CircuitStudio and post it so others can learn from my experience.

    Peter,

I was finishing up my board today to send for prototyping and this error appeared again.  I will attach a video below showing what I am seeing.  I was able to fix the issue by closing my project then reloading it. I hope this can be resolved its a pain!

Thanks for sharing the video. Have you been using cross probing? - asking because one component on the schematic seems highlighted. If so then make sure to try View | Clear on the PCB.
