All I want is a resistor....

Sparkylabs

I am a bit baffled by the total lack of basics. I can install all sorts of manufacturer specific libraries but if I want a resistor, or capacitor of other generic part I need to create it from scratch ? As CS is supplied by Farnell why is there not a basic library of what they supply available ?

The whole library part of CS seems to be a joke, and no I have no interest in the vault, it is impossible to search very hard and slow to use and not available if I am off line. Many parts are missing from the vault, there is a multicomp section (yes farnells own brand) bit it has just one part in it............ am I missing something big or did i just waste £805?

Hi John. Not sure if you are aware but in addition to the online Vault a vast collection of component libraries are available from the Altium website. Although not as convenient to access as the online…

I am afraid that does not count as a libray, it has 3x 1K resistors, most through hole, one small SMD and one large SMD, not helpful. So I have to create every component from scratch, We are talking about…

Hi Simon, It will probably be worth while to make your own libraries with the common components you use. Takes a few hours to get a bunch of standard components built but you can make them how you like…

    Simon,

I believe that CS has the ability to import Eagle libraries. If you want something generic look for the SparkFun libraries and just import them. See if that will help.

The vault is meant more for the industrial/Professional side where specific parts and part numbers are required to generate a BOM.

I tried the import file option and an eagle library was not recognised. element14 sold eagle off for profit and then got altium to make hem circuit studio to sell for a similar price while trying to encourage the people they had sold down to river to auto-desk (who are screwing them over) back with a half price offer while mug me has to pay full price. Will I be sold down the river too when element14 see's a change to make a quick buck ?

What file type was the Eagle library you did not have any success with and what version of Eagle was it designed with?

I can't remember but to be honest I am better off setting my own libraries up. CS like most programs is intrinsically imperial and i use a 3mm frid instead, plus I like to properly populate all my own part numbers so I know what I have.
