Proprietary

Introduction

Proprietary Radio Stack

All Wireless Connectivity RF Modules have the WE-ProWare pre-loaded

Our module added value is the WE-ProWare operating system which is fully included. Communication functions are configured with simple AT commands. You can easily swap between radio channels and protocols. All this makes it very easy to enter new markets with your application.

Proprietary Radio as Bluetooth® LE Alternative

image

  • Connection only with authorized devices by the manufacturer
  • Security aspect as argument for the endcustomers
  • Closed communication is „invisible“ for Smart devices
  • Higher throughput possible – no effort with big overhead of Bluetooth®
  • Saving Bluetooth® Listing costs
  • Business model to build the whole chain as user experience
  • Binding the end customer to the product with additional accessory with the same communication

Radio Frequency Spectrum

The radio frequency spectrum is regulated by designated regulatory nauthorities that define how specific spectrum bands can be used. The ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) and SRD (Short Range Device) bands are free to use without license costs. As there is no single worldwide regulation, national authorities define which of the frequency bands are open for access in each specific country.

Furthermore in ISM bands regulation there is no directive about a specific radio protocol. That means, it doesn’t matter if a proprietary radio protocol or standard radio protocols will be chosen. Everybody can use individual firmware within the regulations of the frequency bands (output power, duty cycle, …). The correlation between data rate, range and battery life could be arranged individually.

Advantages

  • Security due to closed system
  • More flexibility compared to standard
  • More scope for design
  • No dependences
  • No umbrella organization
  • No license fees

Short Range Device (SRD)

Short Range Devices (SRD) are radio devices that offer a low risk of interference with other radio services, usually
because their transmitted power, and hence their range, is low., typically few hundred meters. SRD often benefit from
a relaxed regulaltory regime compared with other radio communication equipment. The use is lecence free in general.
However the radio regulations have to be considered, as the Radio Equipment Directive in Europe.

NETWORK TOPOLOGIES

Point to point

image

Point to point topology is the type of network topology which is used to connect to network nodes directly with each other through some link. In between these two nodes, the data is transmitted using this link.

Star

image

In a star topology all nodes are connected via a central station. All communication is only possible via the central node

Peer to Peer

image

In peer to peer topology every node has a direct connection to the other nodes and can communicate to each other.

Flooding Mesh

image

In a flooding mesh topology an indirect communication between nodes is possible. The message will be repeated until it reaches the receiver.

    Hi DAB,

this cannot be answered in a generalized way.

    It depends on several factors:

    1) Which frequency is used?

The lower the frequency, the higher the range. So our Tarvos-III on 868 MHz transmits further than e.g. the Thyone-I on 2.4 GHz. However, not every range is allowed in every country, e.g. 868 MHz is mainly in Europe, 915 MHz in USA. Only 2.4 GHz is allowed almost worldwide.

    2) Is an internal antenna of the module used or an external antenna?

    3) At what height is the antenna located?

    4) What are the real environmental conditions?

Line of sight (LoS)? Open area or built-up area? Indoor (building, machine hall (a lot of metal)) or outdoor?

A theoretical estimation of the range can be made with the help of the REDexpert on our homepage: Wireless Connectivity & Sensors - REDEXPERT (we-online.com)

    I hope this helps you.

    Best regards,

    Nicola

What kind of distances can the nodes be separated?
