Raspberry Pi DIN Rail Mount Housing - short product review

I bought this cute case for the Raspberry Pi.

It's made by Italian company Italtronic, in the UK avalable from CPC.

They have cases for different Pis. Mine is for the B+.

Assembly

It's easy. There's no Ikea-style manual though, so you may get it wrong the first time.

The only tool required is a screwdriver. The Pi is locked in place with 2 screws (included).

Some attention is needed:

  • wait with assembling the black rail mount spring until the box is assembled and closed. You can't assemble it once the spring is in.
  • Take the SD card out before closing or reopening the box. You'll damage card or Pi otherwise.

The Verdict

It's beautiful. And of good quality.

  • The SD card and all connectors are easily reachable once the kit is closed.
  • The transparent window is ideal if you want to use LEDs or a little display.
  • There's room for a HAT.
  • CAD files are available. This may be handy if you want to 3D-print a custom lid ...
  • It fits perfectly on a standard DIN Rail. And is easy to remove again.
  • Pretty!

What I'd like to have seen is:

  • openings in general. The case is fairly closed as is, and the Pi can get warm.
  • optional openings for connections (see photo below how other housings do that).

Overall, a nice and not-expensive option if you want to rail mount a Pi.

Hi Jan, That's a good price! It looks attractive to use even as a normal Pi enclosure, even if the DIN mounting is not needed. All Pi cases should have space like this : ) And it's fun deciding what functionality…

    Hi,

at 2017 we made a roadtest about the din rail case for the RPI from Phoenix Contact.

RPI BC DIN rail housing for Raspberry Pi computers

How much different is this, or are there some items equal with it?

    Best Regards

    Gerald

    Hi Jan,

That's a good price! It looks attractive to use even as a normal Pi enclosure, even if the DIN mounting is not needed. All Pi cases should have space like this : ) And it's fun deciding what functionality to expose on the front panel with custom designs.

The top looks spacious enough for a small fan if required, but I've been using two Pi 4 with no fan or heatsink so far (just some small existing vent holes in the enclosures I'm using, but could be drilled in the sides a small drill, or leaving the top flap open), and they're running for weeks (I don't do a lot of processing on them). Today is very hot here, but they are running fine. The manufacturer should pre-drill a small grid of holes on one side, if the enclosure really needs sealing from dust then it would not make much difference anyway : ) But at that reasonable price, I'd drill it myself.

With the recent Pi's the micro SD card has to be pulled to remove, so one trick is to put some sticky tape on it, so that it is a handy pull tag : )
