  • Dedicated Web Server for home-lab, or a low powered NAS running off of the almighty PCie Gen2 x1 connection!

  • I would use the Raspberry Pi 5 as hardware for a drone provided with a machine learning and computer vision system, which I would train and use in order to automatically search, recognize and report wildfires.

  • Considering that it sports a Gigabit Ethernet with a video core, I would use it to install Frigate NVR and connect to the two outdoor cameras around the house.
    Then Frigate would send appropriate notifications to the openHAB instance running on the antiquated home server that has no hope of ever receiving a powerful enough GPU for this.
    I would also consider the PI5 as the compute part of the Willow Inference Server that I'm planning on hosting for use with the ESP32-S3 Box that I have here. It works with the online demo service, but I'd rather be totally off grid for this project.

  • With the new capabilities of the Pi 5 I would build a physical AI robot with a PiBrain !
