Adafruit's Raspberry Pi Kernel-o-Matic

I just came across this today. Aside from the awesome cartoon, it strikes me as an easy way to create custom Linux kernels:

Hi Drew,

It looks nice! It makes sense, having a defined VM that can be used for builds, and if Vagrant provides that (I've not heard of it before) then this is awesome - makes life so much easier when people are working with known environments. Thanks for sharing it, it looks very interesting.

In a similar vein, I've sometimes wished that tools vendors would also provide a VM download option. In other words use the tools as an appliance sitting anywhere e.g. network storage, and run it with whatever resources I want.

Vagrant provides a mechanism to build and configure VMs. Which is really an additional step over having a machine pre -configured.
However it does lead you down a path of further abstraction. Either way a separate VM committed to a particular cross-compiled environment means that you have an environment that works and also doesn't break your main host ...much nicer
