What Will You Do With Your New Raspberry Pi 3?

If it is just image processing you could try GIMP and Blender.  Both free and both available for an apt-get install on Pi.  GIMP is for Photoshop kind of work (but does a much better job then Photoshop). Blender is for doing 3d rendering with surfaces and objects.

I already use GIMP and you are right, it does a very good job.

I have looked at Blender, but it is more artistic oriented.

OpenCV provides both control of the webcam and specific transformations, which will be useful for my purposes.

I also use Audacity for sound analysis.  If you have not used it, pick up a copy.  It is very capable.

I thought it seemed like you were looking for something to process live stream.  You're right they are more for static image stuff and not live data.  Though Blender gets used at Pixar Studios (more animation than recording).

I really want to create an indoor/outdoor temperature monitor and then graph the data on the web or Google docs. I've seen a couple of projects that do this but most lack a full tutorial.

If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Python has web service capability. You could host your own web service with the information you are talking about. https://docs.python.org/2/howto/webservers.html The Python site is full of helpful information for getting things done, and also provides a great resource, no matter what your level of understanding of the language.

As soon as I receive Pi 3 I'll make my project - WTware for Pi 2 - work for this version too. Then it will be faster and more interesting thin client from Pi for the same price and with no cost for software.

When I get Pi 3 I would like to run Sonic Pi and express my creative self through music.

I'm a singer/songwriter and due to my age, my recalling song lyrics is not as good as it use to be. This product is intriguing to me as it is small, light weight as well as powerful. I want to be able to place my lyrics and backing tracks on it in use during live performances. I do this now with an IBM Lenovo Ideal Pad (Laptop) OS Windows XP  where I have built my own wireless foot switch controller for hands free live stage performances. If the Raspberry Pi3 can store video content on it's memory card and reset the mouse control functions, then this will be ideal for me. Any one have any thoughts on this application?

Hey John, great idea! I'm not sure I've much advice on the actual build, but it put me in mind of a pub I was recently in (in Nottingham) that had a piano player. Not something you see very often these days!

Anyway, he had a tablet on the piano that he was reading music from, and the app turned the pages automatically by listening to the music he was playing and responding to it. I thought it was quite brilliant!
