Small monitor options for R-Pi

Although I haven't yet received my RPi (it's supposed to arrive this week), I already bought a 7" lcd monitor on ebay that comes with hdmi and support of HD resolutions (native resolution is 840x480 I think). I think the direct signal from HDMI to a screen is much more preferred over a simple analog SD signal like the one you get from the RCA on the Pi.

Here's how it looks from a regular boot screen, it has very decent contrast:

HDMI should work fine, composite video via the RCA jack I guess works for medium-large sized TVs.

I'm delighted with it, though X windows is _very_ difficult to read. Command line is fine. I have some clues for changing resolution for the screen, so going to try that later.

Thanks for all the posts. Im also looking into a small screen.  Im currently working on getting the pi to run the software needed for the 3d printer i built.  Would love to have a all in one printer instead of hooking up my labtop.

That's an exciting idea.  I learned of Cubify during the coverage of Google I/O, and I like how it includes wi-fi: http://cubify.com/.  It would be great to see a cheap single board Linux computer like the Pi add such capibility to DIY 3d printers.

First time I've seen the Cubify... That's just freakin' cool. I'm 35 years old, but I think I can say that without sounding like a teenager ;-) Wish I could afford one!

Thanks Drew!  I will post some pictures and tutorials on how it did it when finished.  Michael,  if your into 3d printers and like to build things then i would check out reprap.org.  I built mine off the mendal prusa design.  I have around $660 stuck into it.

The screen I'm using is a 7" Liliput screen found on ebay, you can buy it as a kit so you get it without the frame/plastic:

It's not very cheap, but the quality compared to a regular vga/composite screen is worth it in my opinion.
