Raspberry Pi Ethernet Problem

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

Whenever I turn my Raspberry Pi on, the three network lights just blink and it can't connect to the internet. I have checked all network items and they do work so it comes down to the Raspberry Pi.  Is there something physicaly wrong with the board itself?

It is Model B and I have Wheezy installed on the SD card if that helps or makes a difference at all.

    I'd check a few basics:

    1. Eliminate the hub (surprised these are still available) and plug directly into your home router's switch ports (usually there are about 4 ports on the LAN side, plug into one of them)

    2. Try a different Ethernet cable, in case it is faulty marginally and allows the link to come up but not communicate

    3. Turn off/on your router in case it really can't assign an IP address for some reason (could be a faulty router)

Hi shabaz. Not sure if I mean hub or router but whichever, you were right, that was the cause of my problem. Realised this shortly after placing my message when everything else in the house lost internet connection.

Turning hub/router on and off (with the 30 second pause) fixed the problem.

    Thanks for your help.

Give credit to Shabz providing me this link for establishing an AP. I used the instructions and had success in getting it to work.

Glad to hear. Shabz's gift of knowledge keeps on giving. Wow, that was four years ago and I'm looking at using the same solution again. Thanks for the knowledge link, I forgot I had it.
