Raspberry pi won't display

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

i am using a vga monitor and i have my raspberry pi displaying through the hdmi using an HDMI CONVERTER and a VGA lead.

to get this working i had to uncomment the hdmi_1 or something . however i recently install the latest version on raspbain and it

booted with out a problem. however when i went to use it this morning i found that the monitor would not display anything. The ACT

light was flashing green and a green light on the monitor came on to show there was an imput but nothing but a black screen.

any ideas?????

Thanks for any help

There's a bunch of lore on using HDMI->VGA converters at the RasPi Wiki:

    http://elinux.org/RPi_Screens#RGB_analog.2FVGA

    http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#HDMI-.3EVGA_converter_boxes

There might be something useful there.  Since your converter used to work and now doesn't, I would suspect a hardware problem.  If your converter is powered by RasPi rather than its own external power supply, one possibility is that diode D1 has burned out.  It's only designed to supply 200 mA at most so if you draw more than that it could burn out and stop supplying 5V for the converter box.  Diode "D1" and other lore at the RasPi Wiki was written for RasPi Model B and may not apply to B+ or A+.

There does indeed seem to be a lot of black magic going on with this tech ...I would suggest trying this on a PC and see if this gives the same or different results
