Advice for buying a Raspberry pi B+ with accessories

Hello everyone,

I am new to Rasberry pi and want to play around and learn how to make cool stuff with it. I am in Germany and tried ordering the kit from the swag but could not as the currency is just Pounds.

So i tried buying it from the distributor - element14.

So here is what i am about to order -

1) RASPBERRY PI MODELL B+ BOARD RASPBERRY-MODB+-512M

2) KABEL, HDMI, HIGH SPEED, 1M RP006 (HDMI Cable)

3) SPEICHERKARTE, MICRO-SD, NOOBS, JAVA 8GB MMCTR08GUBCH-RMLMK-FARN/KIT (Memory Card - 8GB)

4) GEHÄUSE, RASPBERRY PI B+, SCHWARZ MC-RP002-BLK (Pi Case)

5) RPI KAMERA-BOARD, 5MP, MIT FLACHKABEL RPI CAMERA BOARD (Camera board)

6) DONGLE, WIFI, USB, F. RASPBERRY PI WIPI (wifi dongle)

I have my laptop for the screen and it has a HDMI port. I also obviously have a keyboard and an optical mouse.

Is it enough to get started or am i missing something here? Any kind of advice is appreciated.

    Hi Ronni,

I saw you've mentioned the HDMI port on your laptop. Why did you mentioned it? Connecting the HDMI port of the RPi with the one on your laptop might be a bad idea ...

    hi bbolo1,

I was planning to use my laptop as a monitor for the RPi but yeah i got your point. Laptops just have HDMI output not HDMI input. Then i will have to buy a monitor image

A monitor or an HDMI-capable TV would be fine.

You can still use the board with no monitor if you don't need graphics. Another possible way to use its graphics is through VNC. Have the RPi as VNC server and then you can log on with a VNC compatible viewer from your laptop, through the network connection. Of course, it is not the same as the HDMI output (of the RPi) but in this way you can avoid the external monitor (or HDMI TV) usage

OK. One question about the power connector. Is it the same as the recent android phones have or is it different? And do i need anything else to start off with the pi?

    The power connector is micro-USB.

Basically, all the Android phones (but not only) come with a charger of this type. The tablets as well.

In my case, I've used my Samsung phone charger to power up the Pi. This charger could provide a max of 700mA, which was a bit to the limit.

Right now, I am using a tablet charger which is capable of supplying 2 amps and there's no problem when some having a few things connected through Pi's USB.

@patrick Binns and @Mark Venn - Following your link somehow i cant change the currency to Euros. It just gives me an option to pay in British pounds. Plus the starter kit does not have the camera board.

@Patrick Binns - Yes i have done that already and could not find a starter kit that includes model B+. That is the reason I was trying to order it separately.
