Hi!
As topic suggests I want to change the powerconnection from the flimsy micro usb to a sturdy dc power plug.
Is this doable?
I was thinking something in the line of DC kontakt 2,5 mm chassi > DC-kontakter | Kjell.com
Thanks in advance

Could a small board be made that plugs onto the GPIO header and provides power to the 5v pins on there?

Hi Paul,
Yes that is possible, it worked for me. However,I only tried on a RPI B model (and I don't know which one, they had all that trouble with polyfuses etc a while back and had another 'B' revision) and things may have changed again for the B+. I think it should be feasible, but I'm just not sure.
I might investigate the feasibility of designing one with a 7805 regulator etc.
I do share Robins concerns over durability of the Micro-USB connector I would expect the 26/40-Pin header to withstand slightly more abuse..
