Project Plans for the Raspberry Pi Sense HAT?

spannerspencer
spannerspencer over 10 years ago

imageI have to say that the Raspberry Pi Sense HAT looks like a very alluring piece of kit. All that delicious motion sensing, for one thing, but my spider-sense is tingling when I look at that 8x8 LED matrix, too.

Right off the top of my head, I'm not sure what I'd like to do with one of these in terms of a specific project (as opposed to just playing with it, which is where my current inclinations are to be found!). So I thought I'd ask if any of you guys have any grand schemes in mind for putting the Sense HAT to good/useful/entertaining/frivolous/evil purpose.

Let's get our motion-sensing inspiration flowing!

    Hi Spanner!

Ignoring the sensors for now, I hope someone comes up with a "status" program to use the 8x8 display there. It could display

the status of 64 "things". For example, CPU consumption (e.g. four LEDs could be used for >25%, >50%, >75%, >95%), uptime in days in

binary (e.g.  use 12 LEDs for that), network status (another LED), and so on.

Much like the side of a CM-5 (picture source: illinois.edu):

    image

The use of multiple colors could reduce the number of required LEDs, but it may be more tasteful to have it all one selectable

color, or different intensities of that color.

Eight LEDs could be used to display the last byte of the IP address in binary (it is usually clear that the first three will be

either 192.168.0 or 192.168.1 in the home), or cycle between the four bytes.

Or upon startup, the pi could briefly scroll the acquired IP address, to make things easy for people, if the hat is sensed.
