Can I initially SSH directly onto my raspberry Pi to configure and install OpenElec?

Newbie Here,

I have got my OpenElec disk image on my SD card but have not completed first set-up. Can I use PuTTY (with SSH) to remotely log on to my raspberry pi and complete the config and set up remotely/headless

Ssh commands - OpenELEC

It says ssh is disabled by default on some builds. But it can be enabled by placing a text file on the image. Perhaps that link will give the answer you need.
