Microstack Accelerometer Accessory Board for Pi

Hi all,

 

Has anybody had any luck getting the 'Microstack Accelerometer Accessory Board' working with the Raspberry Pi please? I got the baseboard along with the GPS and the accelerometer at the same time and I have the GPS working now but I just can't seem to get the accelerometer to function at all. I'm playing with Python and I don't mind poking around in Linux's dark corners but I'm not at the level of attaching oscilloscopes to the legs!

    I was having trouble as well. Finally decided the Farnell Accelerometer must have been bad so I wired in an Adafruit ADXL345 to the stackable connectors of the Farnell Accelerometer and wouldn't you believe it both began to work. I could even remove the Adafruit board once booted and running and the Farnell kept running fine. So right now without any means of doing additional research or debug I have to attribute this to a bug in the Farnell board. It seems to work every time if I have another I2C device on the bus at startup. This is how my behavior is, I have not seen any other people voicing problems than you and I so who knows maybe we have bad chips.

    Interesting, thank you for that. A second accelerometer seems a little pointless so perhaps I shall look at getting some other I2C device to wire in. Kind of defeats the whole point of the supposedly simple 'microstack' premise though! There is at least one other person with the exact same problem who has posted on the Raspberry Pi forums so I think it is probably a problem for a few people and I guess perhaps not so many have been sold.

    I agree - I bought the microstack for the same reason you did, convenience and simplicity. Well so much for that. If I knew it was a defective chip I would buy another but I am not convinced. I will likely ditch it and unfortunately have to mount and wire the other one.
