Raspberry Pi 2 Wifi Adapter USB

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Hi,

I'm new in Raspberry Pi. I bought a USB Wifi adapter, and I can't do it works.

I plug it on raspberry pi 2, and this detected the new hardware (with command lsusb the adapter appears in the list).

I checked if the chipset are in the list of compatible, but it isn't compatible, but the raspberry can detect it.

Any solution?

Thanks.

Did you follow the instructions on how to add wifi to the RPi 2?

The one that came with the video board kit worked just fine with a few clicks.

Do you have another device that you could put the plug into to see if it can find your local wifi?

    Thanks for you help.

I don't know what are those instruccions. I have searched tutorials at Google, but any of them works.

When I execute ifconfig, only appears eth0 and lo interfaces, never wlan0.

    But in /etc/network/interfaces, wlan0 are configured (I don't know if it's ok)

Yes, I tested the adapter in my laptop, and it works fine (under windows).

Go to the RPi website and get the new manual for the RPi 2.  They have the procedures included to put the wifi on the board and how to do a snoop for your local wifi.

    DAB,

I have checked on the raspberrypi.org site (is the one you cite?) and I have found nothing new. Please can you post a link where the new PI2 manual can be downloaded?

    Thank you. Enrico

No, I remember know that I got the book from the library and since returned it.

As I remember, just enter sudo raspi-config

    Then select configure network.

That should pop up the window where you can scan for your wifi link.

Then just enter your access code and you should be good.

With the command rasp-config it is possible to enable only features, with the option to set-up them loading the corresponding kernel module at startup. I add a document just now with some more information on the Raspberry PI and WiFi usage and settings. I think it maybe helpful.

The following document includes a pdf I collected from the Debian site, I have used to setup the USB WiFi on the Raspberry PI

    Hello hlastras,

I have no idea which USB WiFi adapter you've got, but you said it's listed under lsusb, so that's a start.

If it's also listed under 'iwconfig' and/or 'ifconfig' then it has loaded the driver for it and you're ready to follow the steps here:

    https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/

There's instructions for connecting via the command line at the bottom.

If your device isn't listed under iwconfig or ifconfig, then you'll have to past here what your device identifies as (the full line) from lsusb and we can attempt to identify what driver it should be using - but you may have to recompile it which can take a long time.

    Hope this helps.
