Model B TFT screen

klunk
klunk over 10 years ago

I have an original Raspberry Pi Model B from launch which I have never got around to doing anything useful with. So I am looking to buy a TFT screen for a project I want to build.

Will all the available screens work with it or do I have to be careful which model I buy?

Thanks

    Hello Simon,

if you but a simple HDMI screen anyone will work fine with your PI. Instead if you want the 7 inches touch screen display (that I suggest), there is the 7 Inches TFT display specifically for the raspberry pi that is nice and very useful. Take a look to the links below:

I was actually thinking of something a little smaller. I have had the Pi working with HDMI on the TV and my PC Monitor.

I am thinking something more like this2.4" HAT Primary Display for the Raspberry Pi or. https://www.adafruit.com/products/1601

The former does not mention the Model B just the B+ so I was not sure it that will work for me.

It says it uses SPI. Those signal lines were already available on the first raspberry pi. However the connector will clash with the yellow TV out connector if you try to mount it on the older PI. I'm guessing you're not confident enough to just cut off the extra part of that connector..... :-) (on the other hand, there are two lines in the new section that tell the booting raspberry pi to load kernel drivers. It would give you some hassle if you need to emulate that in software when it doesn't work automatically on the older pi.)

I have a ribbon cable from the Pi as it is in a case so there should be no issue with pins clashing. It depends on what's involved with the software bit, but nigh on 30 years commercial development experience may assist me there ;-)

Confirm: in the home page of the 4D Touch Screen Compatible with Raspberry Pi A+, B+ and Raspberry Pi 2. The link is here: 2.4" HAT Primary Display for the Raspberry Pi

Instead in the 4th article of the series dedicated to the Pi accessories hot-wo, there are some information that I hope maybe useful: Essential Raspberry Pi Peripherals #4 : 2.4" Touch Panel and PI Camera module
