I moved over 1000 miles from it, unfortunately. Fortunately, I have a buddy that is close and can buy and ship to me cheaper than the element 14 'personal' partner does.

No full schematic is publicly available (it is not open source). But yes, you can directly connect 5V DC to the 40-way connector if you wish to.

    Jamie

I think you didn't get my point. I asked "Why an Individual cannot buy raspberry-pi-2 from element14?" I can see the clear difference in price:

    element14                : Rs.2900/-

    greenindiaelectronics : Rs. 3,354.90/-

    crazypi                      : Rs. 3,200.00/-

Out of the 5 links you have given, only 2 have this kit and as you said "we recommend", so, what I have understood is that as an Individual I can buy this from element14, but I am not aware of the process. It will be great if you can clearly mentioned how can I buy from element14 as an individual.

    Hi Jamie,

I have already contacted them and they said they need sales tax registration number. Now, my question is how can an Individual/Hobbyist provide sales tax registration number. And to my surprise, a person with a sales tax registration number can place an order for single raspberry pi 2 i.e. qty=1, then why not an Individual/Hobbyist can do the same.

    Regards

    Sunil Datta

If I were in the area of a microcenter.com I would go there, as they have been selling them in stores for the standard price.  I am disappointed in element14's handing of the user/business distinction.

Because you're not a company and there are various laws, mainly revolving around tax, that limit the ability to order wholesale from business to business.

This is why non-business customers are re-directed to resellers.

If you can suggest clearer messaging on it then I'm certain that feedback will be taken on-board.

As a developer I have learned that breaking your issue into small modules make it easy to understand. So, to understand better, I am splitting my understanding on "How Raspberry Pi 2 is sold"

    1) Raspberry Pi 2 is available at $35 i.e. Rs.2175.76/- (excluding VAT or any other taxes) as claimed by raspberrypi.org. Since, nothing else is mentioned, so, I believe that this amount is for anyone who want to by the Raspberry Pi 2.

    2) I believe they don't sell this kit directly, so they have given following 3 links if you want to buy Raspberry Pi 2

    Distributor

         http://www.egoman.com.cn/

         http://www.element14.com/

    MERCHANDISE

         http://swag.raspberrypi.org/

I also believe they mean to say that anyone can buy Raspberry Pi 2 at $35(excluding VAT or any other local taxes) from their distributor/Merchandise.

    3) The link of egoman.com.cn given on raspberry pi site is showing error "ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND". I also tried to search on their site, but there is no such thing with the name Raspberry Pi.

    4) On element14.com

    element14.com                 : Rs.2900/- : $46

    5) On swag.raspberrypi.org, they are selling "Raspberry Pi 2 Starter Kit" in £75.00 and their is no way, if you just want to buy "Raspberry Pi 2".

    6) So, now back to element14.com. If you want to buy Raspberry Pi 2 from Element14 you have to provide them the Sale Tax Number else element14 want you to go to following resellers

AND Technologies Pvt (India) - http://www.andtechnologies.in/

Green India Electronics (India) - http://www.greenindiaelectronics.com/

      Kits'n'Spares (India) - http://shopping.kitsnspares.com/bon1/index.asp

Remote Computing Tech (India) - http://crazypi.com/

      Tenet Tech (India) - http://tenettech.com/

    7) I was able to find this kit with the following two resellers only.

    greenindiaelectronics : Rs.3,354.90/- : $53.97

    crazypi                       : Rs.3,200.00/- : $51.48

    8)

I believe we just have to pay CST of 5% in Delhi, India. I can confirm this because I recently (31st Jan 2015) purchase D-link modem from amazon.in and I got a bill with 5% CST and no other Tax.

    9)

So, if we go by $35 following is the calculation

    - $35 is Rs.2175.76 - lets round it of to Rs.2200/-

    - 5% of 2200 = Rs.110/-

    - So, the total should be Rs.2200/- + Rs.110/- = Rs.2310/-

    - Lets add courier charged of Rs.100/- : Rs.2300/- + Rs.100/- = Rs.2410/- (though I believe courier will not charge more than Rs.50/-)

    - So the final total amount should be somewhere Rs.2410/_

    10)

How much extra the following are charging

    Element14 : Rs.2900 - Rs.2410 = Rs.490

    Greenindiaelectronics : Rs.3354 - Rs.2410 = Rs.940

    crazypi : Rs.3200 - Rs.2410 = Rs.790

So, I have the following two questions.

    1) From where I will get RASPBERRY PI 2 in $35.

    2) All the sites which are doing business online are handling sale Tax on purchases done by retail customers. Element14 is the distributor of Raspberry Pi and may other products. Is element14 incapable of handling Sale Tax?

Feel free to correct, if I am wrong at any place or if any one else wants to correct me, please go ahead.

For the same reason you can no longer get McRib in all McDonald's.  They chose not to follow a business model that did not benefit you.  It diesnt benefit me either, but I have accepted it.  Just deal with it or don't get a Pi.

    God!  I miss the McRib
