ROADTEST POLL: Would You Be Interested in Roadtesting an Open Source Single Board Computer?

rscasny
rscasny over 2 years ago

imageI have a couple of new BeagleBone SBCs that I'd like the community to roadtest.

This poll is to gauge the level of interest.

About the product:

BeaglePlay is an open-source single board computer designed to simplify the process of adding sensors, actuators, indicators, human interfaces, and connectivity to a reliable embedded system. It features a powerful 64-bit, quad-core processor and innovative connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, sub-GHz wireless, and single-pair Ethernet with power-over-data-line. With compatibility with 1,000s of off-the-shelf add-ons and a customized Debian Linux image, BeaglePlay makes expansion and customization easy. It also includes ribbon-cable connections for cameras and touch-screen displays, and a socket for a battery-backed real-time-clock, making it ideal for human-machine interface designs. With its competitive price and user-friendly design, BeaglePlay provides a positive development experience for users.

Features

I do not plan to write review as long as my previous RoadTest review but sitll plan to write my opinions about this new board.

It would be my first foray into SBC outside Raspberry Pi's.

I think this BB-P looks like an SBC with very interesting features.  I would like to test it, but when I look at the documentation available so far, it made me vote maybe.  The information is sparse.  I have tried almost all of the Beagles, but this reminds me of the BB-AI roadtest where many struggled to get progress  ( and to be sure, the clever people here achieved  results that got us an amazing amount of information from their hard work )

At the top of my list for this board is trying the SPE - single pair ethernet, but I don't know any other devices that also use SPE.  I will have to search around.

BeagleBoard is a real competitor in the SBC world. It would be a real hoot to play with one. I currently use a Raspberry Pi for my analog and digital circuits.

    Interesting board.

I wonder how much current it consumes?

    It requires a 5V 3A power supply.

I will apply for this roadtest. My experience with Development kits will qualify me to do the roadtest. Very interested.

I would challenge the assumption it requires a 5V 3A power supply.

I think if the RoadTest requires the candidate to provide the power supply it needs to state that or provide the supply. It has been suggested in another post an escrow be established for a candidate to participate. The participant having to purchase a PS can be a burden just like an escrow. I have struggled with cables used in RoadTests to discover I'm using the wrong one. Great teaching moment but hey was the RoadTest about the correct cable.

If you want to test a Raspberry Pi you better have knowledge of power requirements or your frustration will mount. Clearly tell me what I am getting and what I would need to purchase. If I have to purchase, what is recommended not leave me guessing. Try any old 5V 3A PS on a Pi and let me know of the success.
