Building a 3D printer out of Hp G85 Office jet printers

Hello there my friends... so i saw these 3D printer things... and i thought it would be cool to try to make one... now i have no background with Arduino at all... but i do have a little bit of knowlege when it comes to CNC's... see my father purchased 6 of these Hp G85 office jets this was a loooong time ago at least 12 years ago recently the last of them died and was replaced with a newer inkjet...

and so with the permission of my father i started disassembling one of these printers to see if they could be of use...

parts of notable significance

steppers 2 steppers per printer... both have encoders not sure if they are useful to me though

rails there are 2 rails per printer aswell

belts two belts per printer and gears/ sprockets to go with the belts...

cold cathode light (from the scanner) useful for other projects and possibly for built in lighting on the 3d printer...

Glass plate from the scanner

various springs and stuff

that seems to be it

so my question is could i use 2-3 of these printers to build a 3d printer

will the steppers be adequate?

if not what steppers are recommended?

where can i find a mc-mega dev board and a RAMPS Sheild?

my goal design is to build one similar to the portable one ben heck built... although mine wont be portable...

any information you have to share with me would be greatly appreciated!

That sounds like a Cartesian-format layout (take a look at the Mendel or Prusa i3) and definitely the Arduino MEGA + RAMPS is a good way to go. Most of the other common boards (RAMBO, etc) are just combined…

A comment is that the two steppers on one belt was listed as a major design fault in the Prusa Mendel.

It may be easier to use a single stepper with a tension belt system to avoid the pains in alignment, maintenance and the case of where you need to manually move the Z axis (for example, if it jams)
