want to get into 3D printing on a budget and curious if there is anything other then the MakiBox that would be good for a beginner or if the MakiBox is ideal for a beginner

I have never used a MakiBox myself, but the folks at hackerspaces in Austin and Houston thought to take advantage of the low-cost printers and tried them. The comments ran from "flimsy" to "came apart when I moved it". I think you should be careful when you try a plexi-glass framed robot that you add additional structural elements if you notice any cracks and don't mind a little wiggle during printing, if you can get into 3D printing for $200 USD. All the challenges can be handled with a little post-production finishing anyway. ThePrinterBot is another inexpensive 3D printer that is available here on Element 14's store as well.

Thanks Kalani I will also take a look into ThePrinterBot as well as a option.
Shipping is always going to be a killer on these for me love the Printrbot but think for starting getting into it I think the makibox might be the first resort then slowly upgrade and get the Printrbot since I love the features and addons for the unit. I just want it for printing parts that I can no longer get online for my repair shop so making small parts on the makibox would probably do the trick for now. Any other options out there?
I've been looking into this also, and the one i am leaning toward is the One-Up (199.00) or Two-Up (279.00) from this website
http://store.quintessentialuniversalbuildingdevice.com/
Saving up the money right now, but there is a pretty good Youtube channel on the Two-Up called "3dPrintedLife".
Only prints PLA, but upgradeable to ABS with a 79.00 heat bed.
They Also sell a 79.00 upgrade to the One-Up that increases your build area to the two-up size.
(I think its mostly US made). Company is based in US which is a plus.
Shipping is seperate.
Hope this helps.

Joseph,
Are you going to contribute anything other than sales pitches to the Element14 Forums?
