3D Printer

Hello

I received an email notification about a new Kickstarter campaign for a $99 3D printer.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/robotic-industries/buildone-99-3d-printer-w-wifi-and-auto-bed-levelin

I know very little about 3D printing but the price point caught my attention. Would this printer be a good starting point for somebody embarking into the world of 3D printing?

Are there any immediate issues that you can see with this unit, or considerations that should be made regarding the design/specification?

Are there better ways of getting started in 3D printing?

I'm tempted with building one too, but a really cheap one like this would help in that regard as you can then print the various brackets and mountings you need for holding things together. The problem…

For the price I would think it might be worth a punt if you currently have no 3D printer. My concern would be stability as it doesn't look too structurally sound. Look at the right hand threaded shaft…

Hello Paul, frankly, I should say that you pay what you get. First of all this model is just another Prusa 3D printer architecture replica with very few enhancements. Then it is probable that this printer…

I haven't used Repetier Host for a while but usually with that I used Slic3r, there's a newer Prusa version that is much faster which I have on my list to try but haven't had time yet.  When I did have issues I used Netfabb to repair

My main slicer is Simplify3D  which IS expensive but really fast...  I believe it's written in Qt image

Hi! For those interested, I have published just now the review of the 3D printer I3A Plus here: Review: 3D Printer Prusa Aluminium I3A Plus

Hope it will be useful. Enrico

I've built one, from scratch, and you're right.  I spent ages, and ages, buying bit's and designing parts, over engineering, and messing about and not actually building anything.  In the end one weekend I thought that's it, and whacked it together out of that parts I had and bits of wood.  A year later and I'm still updating bits and improving it, but that's part of the fun and I can print stuff too!  and it's surprisingly good!  I think the sturdy frame to hang bits off made it all a lot easier.

One of my issues is Z Wobble caused by a wobbly Z axis.  I'd expect to see the same with the machine above.  It's one of the next things to address!

EDIT:  I ought to say, this was one of my first prints.  even with all the wooden parts it got a lot better as I tweaked it.

Also thought to add, we have a CEL Robox at work, and it needs maintenance every now and again.

    Dan.
