Strobing Using RGB LEDs Instead Of Flash Tubes

I would like to create a something like a strobe but with very bright RGB LEDs.

Can anyone suggest a product?

Can I use a MOSFET to power something like this?

Which Arduino Would work best?

Please help!

Both Amazon and AliExpress has LED strobe party lights. Hard to beat Ali’s price, unless you already have the components on hand. You can always reverse engineer and replace the controller with an Arduino…

See the blog for some ideas. It's not so much the arduino, or the mosfet, but your LEDs are a critical component. A strobe has alot of power for a very short time, your led must be capable of handling the punch, and a power supply that can deliver it..

I have had success using this module from a Rasperberry Pi or Arduino. I've used it to drive 16ft section of LED strips with no issues.

Hi,

It would be good to mention the actual use-case (e.g. photography? nightclub?). Otherwise, you may end up with a solution that doesn't meet your needs.

The trigger concepts and circuits for an LED are much different than a xenon strobe bulb.

For xenon tubes with distance between electrodes 13 to 32 mm and tubing inside diameter under 3 mm, use 350 to 550 volts for flash energy 5 to 12 millijoules per cubic millimeter. For lower flash energy, use slightly higher voltage. Ouch.

The LED will use a much lower forward voltage, often less than 20, but alot more amps to get a respectable flash. The flash on time can be hundredths of a second.

I want it to flash as if it was a xenon tube. Just like a camera, but very quickly(about 60 times a second). I see many of these things on Amazon, but I want to flash just like a party strobe but with shifting colors.
