    They look interesting. I'm guessing they're to kick start the new unpronounceable SYZYGY (or Zmod) standard of connector.

    I can't imagine Zmod will replace Pmod. Zmod seems to be aimed more at the higher density FMC connector or the one on the MicroZed. (I don't know what that one is called.)

    Not only high density but also higher speed. The Pmod pin header are limited functionality when it comes to high speed and/or differential signaling.
