Altera EP4CE6 Mini Board I/O?

I was discussing the FPGA development board (Altera EP4CE6 Mini Board ) with John Wiltrout. I am able to execute and load the blinking LED demo "My First FPGA Design Tutorial" (see attached file).  I can enter different programs and make them blink in different patterns.  I have not successfully toggled an IO pin. For instance I want to toggle IO pin one, so I enter FPGA pin_87 which, I believe corresponds to Expansion Connector pin number one. I get nothing.   Any suggestions?

  • I've not used an Altera chip so apologies if this is stuff you've already checked and ruled out, but I think if you're following that guide, page 1-36 and the surrounding pages are where you map the HDL signal names to the physical pins. But I presume you've done that.

    It might be worth double-checking what the 'I/O Standard' setting is for the pins (it is in the screenshot on page 1-36 and 1-38). If there is a 3.3V logic level setting then that should be selected I'm guessing. Are no warnings or errors generated, and is there some summary report the Altera software generates? (It may be a text file it dumps in a folder). If so, that should contain the mappings, and the 'I/O Standard' values too, for double-checking.

    How is the output pin being examined, with an LED, or (say) a logic analyzer?
