Gregory Estrade managed to clone a Sega Genesis on a Altera DE1 dev board. Cloning CPUs and systems on FPGAs is an amazing use of technology. And also a good way to reverse engineer complete systems. But, luckily for us, we don't have to go through all the steps. Greg has been kind enough to provide the source code for all to use. I am adding it here, just in case he changes his mind.
At $160 for the DE1, it's not the most cost effective Sega clone but worth a try for experimentation. See more here.
