Altera has announced the availability of the new MAX V device family of CLPDs. The company claims the MAX V series uses half the total power compared to competitive product while maintaining the “instant-on” ( startup configuration times are 50μs or less), single-chip, non-volatile characteristics of the original MAX series.
The MAX V device family includes seven members, ranging in density from 40 to 2,210 logic elements (LEs). Other features include extending battery life with static power as low as 45 µW, 8 Kbits of flash memory, JTAG BST circuitry, and support for I/O at 3.3, 2.5, 1.8, 1.5, and 1.2 V.
The new MAX V CPLDs are targeted at general purpose and portable designs in a wide variety of market segments including wireline, industrial, automotive and military.
The first two MAX V devices, the 5M80ZE64C5N and 5M240ZT100C5N devices, are available now, priced at $1.70 and $4.90 (100-unit quantities).
