Spartan3E dev board

Former Member
Former Member over 11 years ago

I am using Win 7 with Xilinx ISE14.7 but can not get my system to recognize the board.

I follow the following procedure:

Connect power to SPARTAN 3E board.

Plug in USB cable to computer.

Now connect USB to board

The system should install the driver automatically and the green LED next to the eth connector should lid up green.BUT this does not happen.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

H

Here are some general comments -- I don't know how much they'll help.

    1.  Which board is it?  Maybe someone is using the same board and might have some experience.

    2.  Are there any jumper options on the board?  Sometimes you have to set the correct jumpers to enable debugging.

    3.  USB software can be a pain.  It's supposed to be plug-and-play, but sometimes USB is too smart for its own good.  For example, some FPGA boards use an FTDI chip such as the FT2232H as a JTAG controller.  It's a great chip, except that sometimes the OS recognizes the FTDI chip as a serial controller and installs it automatically as a serial device.  Then you have to figure out how to re-install it as a JTAG controller.  No, I don't know how to do this on Windows 7.  I try to stay as far from Windows as possible :-)

I often see USB instability under Windows 7 (original with no SP).  Sometimes I have to physically reconnect devices for no apparent reason.  Does anyone else refer to USB as "plug-and-pray"?

    4.  I find that Xilinx software sometimes has regression issues, where a new release breaks things that used to work with older chip families.  I always recommend using a version of Xilinx software that was current when your family came out.

    5.  Be sure to search for answers at xilinx.com and at whatever forums are available for your board.
