can I connect LVDS 1.8V pins to LVDS 2.5 V pins ?

Hi all,

I need to connect several LVDS pins between 2 xilinx FPGA evaluation boards.

It's possible to connect LVDS pins powered by 1.8V to LVDS pins powered by 2.5 V (because I don't have enough pins ) ?

Best regards,

Probably not ideal but safe if TX is 1.8V and RX is 2.5V. Xilinx say this: https://forums.xilinx.com/t5/Other-FPGA-Architecture/LVDS-1-8v-and-2-5V/td-p/667588 MK

    Safa,

Just to add something on this. If it's a custom board/baseboard and you're running out of pins, you can also consider using a LVDS transceiver IC (external). Then you can feed a single-ended LVCMOS from the FPGA to the transceiver and get the differential output from the transeiver IC, and the opposite on the other side. This can also be helpful since certain standards require certain VCCIO for the bank, which limits what other pins on the same bank can be used for once you've supplied that VCCIO to the bank.

    Best Regards,
    Saad
