Recommended reading for FPGA beginner ?

I come from an engineering background but Ive been in software development for many many years. Im really interested in using FPGA and embedded development but I know very little about the current technologies in the the embedded industry. I was wondering if anyone could recommend book(s) to give me an overview of embedded development in general and also maybe some more FPGA-development focused books ?

Also There is a gentleman that does a very well step by step intro-ish blog that might help as well.
