What's the dumbest thing you could sense and connect to the internet?

At first, I thought "how about the internet of showers?" then realised monitoring of water consumption, moisture, bacteria levels, and general use was probably sensible.

Then I thought "what about shovels?" then I figured this is more like it, there's probably not a lot you could gain from connecting a capacitive sensor to a shovel, or detect soil humidity and acidity while you dig, or know you're digging into a pipe if you keep going, well, maybe I'm starting to actually convince myself it is sensible here.

This isn't working.

Someone convince me, what's the dumbest thing you could sense and connect to the internet? There's got to be something superfluous.

How about a Cloud connected solar super-nova detector?  It would report to the Cloud service a count of Supernovas occurring to our SUN as recognized by the individual SNC iOT device.  The count of Supernova events reported by each individual Super Nova iOT device, would be available to each user, along with an optional (through In App purchase) end-of-the-Universe event counter.  These counters would be accessible to any Internet connected smart-phone running our App.

I'm currently looking for a test scenario so I can prove that the SNC iOT device can properly distinguish between the two different events, local-Supernova vs wide-scale end-of-the-Universe.

oh crap.  I missed the world ended sensor above.  I guess we could incorporate all 3 features into the device.  Again, differentiating between the events will be interesting.  What we need is a Lagrange point sensor between the Earth and the Sun that can tell the difference.  Possibly a Lunar Surface device to help with the Universe-still-exists testing.  The SNC is getting more and more expensive.  I guess we could offer the SNC iOT device along with the two accessory space-probe units in a package deal, with a tiny discount to somebody who picks up all the pieces and the launch service in a single purchase.  Early adopters and pre-Beta adopters will get our special gold-colored iOT device and the Windows-Mobile App version in a special shipment where each byte of the App is individually adorned with a platinum accent.
