What's the dumbest thing you could sense and connect to the internet?

cstanton

At first, I thought "how about the internet of showers?" then realised monitoring of water consumption, moisture, bacteria levels, and general use was probably sensible.

Then I thought "what about shovels?" then I figured this is more like it, there's probably not a lot you could gain from connecting a capacitive sensor to a shovel, or detect soil humidity and acidity while you dig, or know you're digging into a pipe if you keep going, well, maybe I'm starting to actually convince myself it is sensible here.

This isn't working.

Someone convince me, what's the dumbest thing you could sense and connect to the internet? There's got to be something superfluous.

    For the vanity concious, a "does my bum look big in this sensor" which could send a response to the users smart phone. A feature would be to scan the codes on clothing to save people trying things on. Obviously the key technological issue with this particular item would be making a case robust enough to survive being droppd out of a 20 story window, run over by a car or drowned in fish tank.

    I think a sensor in a chair that says whether you are sitting or standing and display the information on a website would be a pretty useless.

    Another extremely useless sensor is a sensor that senses if it is a sensor or not (which it obviously is) and displays the fact that is absolutely a sensor (albeit one that only senses itself as a sensor).

    or alternatively ... "I refuse to answer on the grounds that I might incriminate myself"

    As I am typing this I can hear, somewhere in the distance, a burglar alarm that has been sounding on and off for over 2 hours, apart from the annoyance to people trying to get an afternoon nap, it has as far as I can tell been ignored. Therefore I suggest that this alarm and many others should be connected to the Internet so that it can be ignored by millions of people around the world.

    BTW it's not yet time for my afternoon nap.

    is a sensor that senses if it is a sensor or not

    reminds me of Blade Runner.

    and more surprisingly.

    Didn't see that one.

    Perhaps a random selection from those three, here's something similar I wrote just the other week.

    case "BUMP": {
                    if (Math.random() > 0.5) {
                        this.player.play("./audio/Bump.wav");
                    } else {
                        this.player.play("./audio/Oops.wav");
    }

    Admit it Andy, you so want to make this for yourself image
