Need help with Multicomp Pro PC Oscilloscope MP720016US (Update: It's working!)

rsjawale24

Recently I ordered a PC oscilloscope as the poroject14 prize from 555 timer madness contest. I have always wanted to own a oscilloscope, been trying since 2017 and finally I own one. This is my first ever oscilloscope sore really excited about it!!

But I'm facing troubles getting it to work.

I followed the instructions in the manual, installed the drivers correctly, the USB scope is identified by windows device manager, however when I try to check for waveforms, there's nothing displayed.

As per the manual, I tried to use the probe compensation, and clicked in auto-set to auto set the scope window, however it gets stuck forever at this point as shown in image below.

I tried reconnecting, reinstalling drivers, but nothing seems to work.

Have you used this device before? Any help on how to make this work is appriciated.

UPDATE: The scope's working fine now. I had to install the drivers from Owon website and change the software as well. I'm using the software from Owon. The scope seems to be working fine now.

Will post a detailed blog on my tests with the Scope soon. Really excited about my first scope and can't wait to do lots of pending projects!

I would personally try a different computer with a different USB controller. Also avoid using any hubs along the way, use a quality cable. I've had issues previously where certain pieces of test equipment…

Does it work ok in other modes , or is it just the probe compensation routine with issues ?

Nope. It doesn't even start displaying the noise on the screen like you would expect it to even if the probes are not connected.

Congratulations on acquiring your first personal oscilloscope, it is a very exciting moment in one's life!

I'm sorry to hear the software doesn't work out of the box Disappointed

The following search term "MP7200*" seems to bring up other members blogs using the pc scope

    Hopefully its something simple

What operating system do you use? I don't have that model. Things to review, change the USB cable for another. Check that the firewall is not blocking the communication. Restart the computer with "Restart" not with shutdown.

Sounds like you either have a hardware or driver problem.

That's what my MP720016 looks like when the software launches. (With the traces showing noise.)

That's how the driver appears in Windows 10 device manager.

Note, I have other libusb32 devices (and drivers). DS-Wave (C2, not S2!) didn't like them! I had to use the usb_device.inf that came with the Multicomp software. I installed it through Update Driver -> Browse List -> Have Disk.

Good catch. On my mine, I can set the trigger to "Alternate," which (I guess) alternates between Channel 1 and 2. The UI looks the same as rsjawale24's.

Auto sweep still updates the display, and Auto-Setup works as expected.

That said, rsjawale24, you might try doing a default setup:

I'll have to admit that I haven't had any issues with my installation, but your VDS_C2 app looks a bit different from mine.

Up in the upper left - the button on yours is AutoSet while mine is Auto.  This is the button to connect/disconnect the app to the scope.  I assume that you are connected.

If I push the button on mine while connected it gives me the option to disconnect

    image

If I am disconnected and it can find the scope, it will give me the option to connect (in my case I only have USB connected)

    image

If you press the "House" icon in the lower right, you can get a Home menu and under Utility -> about you can find your scope/app info.

Not sure if any of that helps...

"Auto Set" is what the indicator in the upper-left hand says after clicking the "Auto Setup" (A icon on the top-right), while the auto-setup routine is running.
