LoFi Beats to Solder To -- Episode-660

Pick up your soldering iron and chill out as you focus and get into your zen headspace, kick back and listen to these LoFi beats in the background as you join the element14 presents team working away on their printed circuit boards. Let the stress melt away to the sizzling sounds of flux and paste as the components wick and slide into place. Whether it's leaded solder, unleaded solder or solder paste, whip out your solder sucker and solder wick and get to work.

What's your Go-To Soldering Hardware?

Do you solder at your workbench, or do you find yourself soldering on the go with a USB soldering iron? Do you prefer to work with a solder sucker, or is solder wick more your style? Leaded solder, or unleaded?

When it comes to soldering your project it can depend on what the purpose is. Whether you are repairing electronics or putting together a prototype project, you may find yourself choosing the type of soldering iron that is best suited for what you are doing at the time. Still, with products like multicomp pro's bench soldering iron or Pinecil's portable offering, there is a lot of room for soldering equipment of varying types depending on what you need.

Thanks for the soldering school page. I noticed that the links for NASA STD manuals are dead. I have listed updated links below: NASA NPC200-4: http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19720064032_1972064032…

    Hey phoenixcomm,

Great recommendation thank you so much! NASA certifications sound incredible, I would trust my life to your soldering skills.
This video was just "Slow TV" from B-Roll of the element14 presents teams work, this is not meant to be educational in any way.
We hope people who solder in mission critical situations are paying attention to certifications and folk like your self not this video.

Folks please do check out the recommendations in the comments above.  <3

This video should have never been posted I take grate exception to this technique as nothing show is considered good practice!!!!  I had NASA certifications. NEVER NO HOW JUST DON'T DO THIS EVER!!! This is horrid practice he went to the IC (first one) and hit with a soldering Iron with out a heat sink in place! FAILURE!! Stuff like this show nothing but bad techniques! and mp2100  never use the USB iron! it has ZERO RECOVERY TIME!! The way this should be done is with low temp solder paste and then a hot air station!

If you are interested in soldering techniques  look a my blog posts called Soldering School. Read Learn. ~~~ Cris H.

I use an old Hakko 936 for most work despite also owning several newer and fancier soldering stations. I guess there is a reason why there are so many clones of this design.

Mmmmm 2 hours of soldering video.  Love it. Still watching, hoping to learn a few techniques. The whole time watching, I am smelling the flux smoke.  Really.  I see the smoke rising and my brain smells it.

and yes, I do travel with the mini USB powered soldering iron, I admit it.
