Amazon Alexa and Echo Dot

Amazon Alexa is a personal assistant like Google Assistant, Apple Siri, Samsung Bixby, which is a voice service. According to Amazon, Alexa is defined as follows:

Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based voice service available on tens of millions of devices from Amazon and third-party device manufacturers. With Alexa, you can build natural voice experiences that offer customers a more intuitive way to interact with the technology they use every day. Our collection of tools, APIs, reference solutions, and documentation make it easy for anyone to build with Alexa.

Start building for voice today by adding new capabilities to Alexa, connecting Alexa to devices, or integrating Alexa directly into your products.

Alexa enabled devices like Echo Dot helps us use the Alexa voice service. When you ask Alexa something, the Echo Dot processes what you have said by voice recognition and converting the speech to text. It has a far-field voice recognition capability. The wake word Alexa triggers the array of seven microphones underneath the light ring, which uses a beamforming technology and noise cancellation to identify your voice, however, the surrounding noise could be. But this isn't limited to your voice alone. When you even play a video with someone saying Alexa, it activates Alexa to listen and respond. And the condition is dramatic when you have someone by name Alexa in your home. According to Amazon, Echo Dot is defined as follows:

Echo Dot (2nd Generation) is a hands-free, voice-controlled device that uses Alexa to play music, control smart home devices, make calls, send and receive messages, provide information, read the news, set music alarms, read audiobooks from Audible, control Amazon Video on Fire TV, and more

You can also integrate the Alexa Voice Service in your own hardware.

Role of Alexa in this project

As you would have identified by now, Alexa will provide the voice-based personal assistance service for the people affected by Anosmia or those in a wheelchair, in my project. Alexa will voice-out the cue in correspondence with the smell identified and then alert if necessary. Also, it will be capable of recognizing the voice command and provide the respective response [Arduino MKR1000 will execute the action needed here].
