Blog #6 - Competition 01

Previously I had shared Mother Nature and her scoffing at my project.  Here are some more updates on that side of the Guinea House!

I went out in the morning to check on the broody hen.

image

I thought I could hear something new in there and she was pretty serious about hiding everything!

Cool, baby chicks!!!!

So I go and share the great news with my wife and she decides its time to go to Murdochs!  Remember the Chick Days I mentioned before?  :-)

image

So many choices!

The bins that have red light in them are chicks under heat lamps.  There are even more that couldn't fit in the picture, I guess I need to invest in a drone.

And we here we have what we left with.  Deana wants to see if she can slip these 3 little guys right in with the new ones.  These are only a couple of days old so pretty close.

Someone had mentioned turkeys in another post so I thought I would share a picture of baby turkeys at Murdochs, we didn't get any.  This time...  :-)

Okay back to the Guinea House which has turned into the Chicken Chick Casa.  :-)

image

Here we have slipped the three new chicks in.  They are the all yellow ones.  No problems so far!

Another video, with the assistance of Wife Deana and Daughter Regan.

There are those other two yellow chicks, hiding way in the back, probably warm back there.  That is the Sun facing side.

image

So far the new chicks seem to be doing well!

This little egg has us worried, but we will give it and the hen some time alone.

Stay tuned for more updates!

This is a prime example of how not planning for something can double what you expect.  We were not planning on "naturally" having any chicks and were focused on the Incubator only.  Silly us.

Attach the Edison to the hen. Not sure it fits with Upcycyle It though

    Great update.

I have found that animals of all species will adapt to new young ones.

I had a 90 lb Shepard-Husky female dog take over the care of five baby kittens when their mother died soon after they were born.

She kept them clean and warm and when they were old enough, she took them out to the wood and taught them how to hunt.

You have not lived until you see a 90-lb dog pounce on a 2-ounce field mouse to show the kittens how it is done.

She then ate the mouse to show them that it was food.

    Amazing.

    DAB
