Blog #7 - Edison Setup
Looking through some of the great posts out there on the other projects I noticed that I might want to share my experience setting up the Intel Edison board. From the variety of Operating Systems and paths to get the board running it is always nice to have documented options.
Not sure why I started here, but I looked up the Intel Edison Arduino and it led to this site. So I thought lets see what type of information they share. I clicked their link at the bottom for how to assemble/connect the board...
Okay. Not the best start!
So, what better place to go to for an Intel Edison product then the Intel site? Yep this looks like a promising start!

So going down the page you can choose which board you want to assemble and it goes though some cool videos and step by step pictures for assembling the board and plugging it all in. Pretty basic, but I do want to make mention of a couple things. https://software.intel.com/en-us/node/628221
A. Notice those tiny hands assembling the boards? Who has hands like that? First thing I did was drop one of those pesky nuts on the desk which in turned sprinted off the back and onto the carpet where it went into stealth mode hiding!
Had to call out the SuperBrightLedSearchTool and start crawling on the floor until I was lucky enough to discover the little devil.
Here it is under the AllRevealingLight. Element14 Pen to show size.
After a bit of creative word use and repeated attempts I was able to get everything secured and wired!
Here I enlisted Sgt BlueDude to stand watch over the setup in case anything attempts to escape again. My son was kind enough to provide some Lego Lightsabers to properly arm the Sgt.
A quick way to tell that you have everything connected and the proper switch switched, you will now have an Edison Drive pop up on your computer!
Back to installing the Setup Utility. I had already downloaded this before but wanted to show the latest version that was found.
Alrighty, here we go with the install. A lot of pretty straight forward click on Next or default type steps.
Side note, I always uncheck the Always trust button prior to hitting Install. So all of the above, I unchecked and clicked Install.
Cool, Drivers finally installed! Onto Firmware!
I had also downloaded this file earlier but for the sake of documentation was redoing everything since I had not documented before. Otherwise I could have used the bottom option of Use existing image.
Here. We. Go!
It can take a little while.
Still going! During this time you may hear some beeps from your computer as it connects and disconnects from the Edison.
And we are flashed! Let's keep going through all of the tool options. SSH is next.
Got to have a unique name!
SSH good!
Time for some connectivity, WiFi style!
As you can see with Detected Networks you can choose among what ever can be "seen."
Online!
Verification, all looks good!
The next step now that the board has been setup and is showing connected, patched and configured, would be choosing an IDE.
Something for another blog I think since this one is getting picture long. Thank you!
