Hi Matt, I have figured out that it really only needs to refresh a few times an hour and that helps a lot. After having in place for several days, I dont even notice it anymore. I have heard about the…

Hi Shabaz, Thanks for your help! I just bought the Raspberry Pi model 3B and will try to configure during the weekend.

Excellent project.  Just exactly what I was looking but I am a non-techie and know zero about coding.

May I raise a few tweaks, as follows:

    (1) Improved presentation.  The date/time of the calendar by the left side seems a bit small.  How about shortening to DD-MMM and making font bigger (my eyesight is not as good as before).  In fact, bigger font overall would make the glancing quicker.

    (2) Aesthetics comment.  Is there a power connector that would not stick out to the right side of the frame?

    (3) Is it possible to install a powerbank on the other unoccupied side so that the unit is standalone, rather than tethered to the power point? No need to have complicated electronics as the powerbank can be removed to charge when needed.

    (4) Portrait mode.  Is that possible?  How would it look like?

I just got my first raspberry pi and not even got the OS loaded.  Something I wanted to get started.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

    Hi Kim,

Thank you, was really fun to build and share with you all!

    1. Great suggestion on the date format. That would shrink the width, but when changing the size of the font it will increase the height as well. If you look at the way its squeezed in there, there is a pixel or two seperating the date from the time, and a pixel or two on the top and bottom padding. Might be a real tight fit, but might be able to increase the size just a tiny bit.

    2. Two ways to not have the power connector stick out the side. A) Mount the raspberry pi on the other side. B) Get a right angle power connector for the raspberry pi. That would either have it go up or down instead of straight out, depending on left hand or right hand right angle connector.

    3. Yes! Raspberry pi will run just fine on a power bank (as long as it has a 2A output).

    4. It is possible in the way that anything is possible! However, I dont think there would be much space for descriptions of tasks or calendar items. I thought about portrait, but opted for landscape to get the most real estate for descriptions. Answer is: it would take complete reformatting to make it portrait mode. So not easily. Sorry!

Awesome on your first Raspberry Pi! They are a ton of fun to work with. Lots of good resources and inspiration around here, see you around!

    Thanks,

    -Kaleb
